Orleton Coffee Morning

Villagers meet every Wednesday for a cofffee and cake at the village hall from 10.30 - 12.00. We are a relaxed informal group with no membership fees. Pop along and meet your friends and make new ones too. We have a good choice of freshly baked homemade goodies including gluten & dairy free, all slices are currently only £1 each. Beverages including Fairtrade are £1 for a cuppa with a free refill.

In October 2022 we were awarded a 5* food hygiene rating from Herefordshire council. In 2022 we also held our first Fundraising Macmillan Coffee Morning raising over £1,000 thanks to the support of the villagers and local businesses.

On the last Wednesday of the month we have the visiting library which is also run by our volunteers.

Please note that we do not open throughout August and we also have a week off during the Christmas holidays.

Orleton Recreation Association

Orleton is fortunate to have 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of land for recreational activities, situated to the north of the village. It fills the shallow U of the main housing areas and is accessed from the Village Hall and Mortimer Drive.

Orleton has a long history of village football and cricket teams played on rented land. In 1988 the pitch was bought, together with adjacent land, with a combination of fundraising and grants from various agencies including the Parish Council. It is administered by the Recreation Association, comprising village organisations, with the Parish Council as Custodian Trustee.

In 1988 the land was leveled and re-sown by the farming community and a pavilion was built by volunteers. Four acres of community woodland, funded with a Forestry Grant, was planted by an army of volunteers and every school child.

Run by parent volunteers from Orleton Pre-School, the Parent and Toddler Group takes place at Orleton Village Hall every Monday from 10.00am-11.45am. New members always welcome.

Orleton Beavers, Cubs and Scouts

Orleton Junior Football Club

Orleton & District Junior Football Club is a friendly village football club for boys and girls aged from 6 years old and upwards.
We welcome boys and girls from Orleton and surrounding villages, who want a chance to improve their football skills and be part of a supportive team.
We meet at Orleton Recreation Ground. Days and times of meetings vary, mostly weekend matches and midweek evening training.

Orleton & District Young Farmers Club

We are the local Young Farmers Club who meet twice a month on a Wednesday evening.
Activities include tours of local rural business and farms, ice skating, bowling, pub quizzes and similar.
There are also a huge range of competitions throughout the year that we have the opportunity to compete in, against all of the other clubs within Herefordshire. Competitions can range from tug of war, to public speaking, to stock judging and many more.
We also hold fundraising events throughout the year including our infamous fireworks and bonfire, jumble sales, tractors runs amongst other events.
The club is open to anyone between the ages of 10 - 28, and we have many associate (older) members who have stayed on to help out where needed. New members will always be warmly welcomed.

Orleton Short Mat Bowling Club

Short mat bowling is an increasingly popular indoor sport.
It is played on a mat with normal woods and a jack, but, as a challenge to their skill, bowlers have to avoid a block of wood placed as an obstacle at the centre of the mat.
The Orleton club exists purely for the enjoyment and social company that the game offers, rather than for organised competition with other clubs, although the fun of playing does not exclude some friendly rivalry.
The sport was started in Orleton in 2002 and the Club plays in the village hall on Wednesday afternoons of each week, except for the months of April to August, when players’ thoughts turn to traditional outdoor bowls.

Orleton Village Allotments Association

There is a small allotment site on Wheatcommon Lane in Richards Castle two and a half miles from Orleton. This site is on flat well drained soil and was founded in 2014 with the help of Orleton Parish Council. Water is available on site either through rain-water harvesting or from a bore-hole.   The site is self-funding and the cost of a full plot (25x10 meters) is very reasonable.

Orleton Village Golf Society (OGS)

If you are interested in golf but do not want the cost or commitment of joining a golf club why not join the Orleton Village Golf Society.
This group of enthusiastic golfers meets about six times a year at various local courses for ‘society competitions’.
You do not need an official handicap to join the Society as the ‘friendly’ Handicap Secretary will soon allocate you an appropriate number.

Orleton History Group

The Orleton History Group is a relaxed and informal group of people who are interested in finding out more about our local village history - from medieval times (and earlier!) to the present day. We're not academic historians but we do do our own research, under the guidance of professionals such as the staff at Herefordshire Archives service. If you're interested in getting involved in research, please contact Liz or drop into the shop.

Orleton & District Ramblers

The Orleton Ramblers are an informal group who meet at 10.00am at the Village Hall every 2nd Tuesday, for a ramble of around 7 miles and every 4th Tuesday, at the same time, for an amble of around 4 miles.
Those wishing to participate in either of these walks should bring their own packed lunch and simply turn up on the day.

We are a Senior Citizens club that meets monthly, on the last Thursday of the month, at Orleton Village Hall.
In the summer we go out on bus trips & in the winter we have a speaker, followed by a good tea, provided by our catering group.
This much valued community group has been running in Orleton for over 50 years.

Meet and Eat

Meet and Eat was started many years ago to enable us to keep in touch with elderly people in our communities.
We meet on the Last Wednesday of every month.
It is a place where we enjoy good food and have a good old natter.
Everyone is welcome. Just phone us the day before!

Orleton Womens’ Institute

We are a very active group of women who meet every 2nd Monday in the month in the Village Hall at 7.30pm. At these meetings, we have speakers who cover a wide range of subjects which has included medieval medicines, the SAS, patchwork and wine tasting. In addition, we have outings, interest days and craft workshops.
We support village events and, of course, our teas are a big fund-raiser at the Orleton Summer Fete.
There is always a warm welcome for new members and visitors to any of our meetings.!
